Beoir: A beer consumers' group for Ireland

It's been a busy week with work, and one very special announcement we (TheBeerNut, Séan Billings and myself) have published over on IrishCraftBrewer.com: our intention to form a more official, organised body to represent beer consumers' interests in Ireland, and indeed representing Irish craft/micro-brewed beer abroad (well, in Germany at least! :).

This organisation will be called Beoir. You can read the announcement here.

I think this is pretty significant, and it means it'll be another group joining the likes of PINT, Zythos and CAMRA under the European Beer Consumers Union, all going according to plan of course, and given how IrishCraftBrewer.com has grown since we started it almost three years ago, there's no reason to believe this won't succeed.

Needless to say, best of fortunes with the initiative!

Anything I can do from here, I'll be happy to help...

Just the one word from this EBCU vice chair : Hooray !

Thanks, Max. There's still a long way to go, but the first step has now been taken. Let's see where it leads :)

Laurent, I thought you might get a kick out of this :) ICB has come a long way since yourself, Joris and Terry posted about the EBCU just over two years ago. I felt a little embarrassed reading back over our responses at the time, but I think it was the right decision at the time, and we have the right decision at this time too :)

Well, don't worry, we know suxh processes need time. And it'll probably be a year or a year and a half still until this Beoir is really up and running and can formally apply. Nevertheless : a major step forward !

Good luck, a noble initiative indeed.

But you can't be a proper beer consumer group, you haven't condemned extraneous carbon-dioxide.

I like your constitution, well done and all the very best of luck to your group.

Nice one, good luck!

Thanks guys. All credit to TheBeerNut for a great final draft of the constitution. No better man.

Dave, the omission of an article about extraneous CO2 was clearly an oversight ;)

It's OK, I have it on good authority that you only need to worry about that for beers brewed in Britain.

Barry M said...

Indeed! As far as we're concerned, beer is beer, and we're more than happy to have a good blast of carbon dioxide if it means bettering the availability and choice from small Irish breweries.

Mmm, CO2...

WollPack Dave, re : "But you can't be a proper beer consumer group, you haven't condemned extraneous carbon-dioxide."

OMG, it's terrible, it means pretty much every beer consumer group in Europe bar one - i.e. a good dozen of them - are not proper beer consumer groups at all. ;o>

If you need any diplomatic representation over here, I can act as a consul..

Sounds like a great idea! I hope it comes off well. It's certainly something Ireland needs. .)
